Two Nepali films with different genre identities are scheduled to open on Friday, October 16, 2026: Biraj Bhatta’s 12 Gaun 2 and Chandra Pant’s Aa Bata Aama 2. OnlineKhabar’s September 24 festival release calendar placed both on that date, and current movie listings and official promotional material support the schedule. The opening provides a timely local entertainment choice as Dashain approaches its main holiday period. This preview reports the announced releases, not opening day earnings or a verdict on either film’s quality.
12 Gaun 2 continues the action series associated with Biraj Bhatta, who is listed as director as well as a cast member. The Cinema Nepal’s profile names Samir Bhatta and Anoop Bikram Shahi alongside him, with Kafiya Shahi, Barsha Itani, Khushi Karki and Sunil Pokharel also in the ensemble. It identifies the film as a sequel and reports shooting in Kathmandu, Sindhupalchowk and Chitwan. CineRoyale’s synopsis describes two warriors confronting a powerful conspiracy, a fictional premise that reinforces the film’s action and drama positioning.
The other release is positioned as a family drama. The Film Nepal’s profile lists Paul Shah, Bipana Thapa, Malika Mahat, Nikita Acharya and Rista Gurung among the cast of Aa Bata Aama 2, with Aakash Shrestha, Saigrace Pokhrel, Gajit Bista and Pradeep Ram Singh Rawat also named. It records October 16 as the release date and Chandra Panta as director. The spelling differs slightly across English listings, while the official trailer credits Chandra Pant for story, screenplay and direction.
The official trailer published by OSR Digital repeats the October 16 cinema date, corresponding to Asoj 30, and identifies Aarya Entertainment as the presenting banner. Its credits name Nabaraj Upreti for photography, Babul Giri for music, Shahil Khan and Milan Shrestha for editing, and Alish Karki for background score. These details show the range of work represented by a cinema release, from performance and direction to image, sound and post production.
The release pairing sits inside a larger festival calendar rather than an otherwise empty weekend. OnlineKhabar reported that Chha Maya Chhapakkai 2 was scheduled for October 17, immediately after the Friday pair, with Kabaddi 5 following on October 23. Its account describes Dashain and Tihar as commercially important periods because holidays can give audiences more time for entertainment. It also cautions that a festive release date does not guarantee success. The calendar is therefore evidence of competing release plans, not proof that every film will receive equal screens or attendance.
As industry analysis, the contrast between an action sequel and a family drama gives the October 16 opening a clear point of interest without requiring a prediction about which will lead the box office. Cast recognition and genre can influence a viewer’s choice, but neither supplies an earnings figure before verified results are available. The release announcements also should not be treated as a review: promotional material establishes how a film is presented, whereas judgments about its execution require watching the finished work.
The practical distinction for audiences is between a national release date and a particular cinema session. Current listings support October 16 for 12 Gaun 2, while Aa Bata Aama 2’s official trailer and film profile carry the same date. Exact screening hours, seat availability and venue participation can differ and should be checked directly with the cinema. No universal first show time, ticket price, sold out claim or opening revenue is asserted here. The verified update is the scheduled arrival of two Nepali releases ahead of the festival weekend.
